Can a person be identified with a landscape?

Landscapes have meaning. One can even say that landscapes have a narrative and it is the narrative that gives importance to it. Paul Cézanne has numerously painted the Mont St. Victoire in the south of France. Because of his paintings this mountain has become as famous as the painter self. But is it a mountain or is it a ridge? Cézanne painted this mountain 'en profil', almost as a portrait. I have photographed it 'en face', dominated by horizontal lines. The series is considered as a personal study. After the formal Polderland series I wanted to learn how to connect with a landscape on a more personal basis. This series preceeded the Cette Mongtagne C'est Moi project.

The photographs were made on a 12x20 inch negative format in 2005.
